With almost three decades of experience at the heart of the Hollywood studio system, Andrew Hilton—known professionally as The Screenplay Mechanic—is a seasoned story analyst, screenwriter, and producer dedicated to elevating the craft of cinematic storytelling.

Andrew’s career began in the development offices of the industry’s most prestigious studios. He served as a Story Editor and Senior Story Analyst for a variety of companies including Universal Pictures, Silver Pictures, Paramount, and a decade-long tenure at New Regency (20th Century Fox). His fingerprints are on the development history of some of the most iconic films in modern cinema.

Today, Andrew operates as a premier independent screenwriting consultant and analyst who has read over 14, 000 feature film screenplays and TV pilots. His diverse, international clientele includes:

  • Professional and amateur screenwriters, actors, producers, and directors.

  • Film financiers, distributors, and international studios.

Andrew doesn't just analyze scripts; he also writes and produces them.

  • Screenwriting: As member of the Writers Guild of Canada (WGC), Andrew has seen his work produced for networks like Lifetime (Fatal Trust) and has had numerous projects optioned by Academy Award-winning producers behind films like Saving Private Ryan, The Hurt Locker, and The Lord of the Rings. His action picture The Guns Of Christmas Past, directed by Allan Ungar, and produced by Hoodlum Ent. and Highland Film Group is scheduled to shoot Early 2027.

  • Production: His producing credits include the indie action-thriller Brake and the acclaimed motorcycle documentary Why We Ride. Several more titles in development include the psychological thriller Cold.
